Medicare Part D

Prescription Drug Plans

Launched in 2006, the Medicare Part D program is a federal program designed to help Medicare beneficiaries afford their prescription medications.

Though technically optional, late-enrollees are subject to a late-enrollment penalty if they have gone more than 63 days without creditable prescription drug coverage (such as through an employer or union plan, a Medicare Advantage Plan with Part D built-in or the VA).

Even if you don't take any medications or don't think you need prescription drug coverage right now, be sure to know the rules before you pass-up the opportunity to enroll when first eligible. To learn more about the Part D program and how it works, please click here.

Special Needs Plans

(Medicare Advantage)

Designed for Medicare beneficiaries who are either low-income, suffering from certain ongoing medical conditions or living in a nursing home, Special Needs Plans (SNP) are Medicare Advantage plans that offer focused and specialized health care coverage for those who qualify.

The three types of SNP plans are:

  • Dual-Eligible plans for those with Medicare AND Medicaid. (Medicaid is administered by states, according to federal requirements, and provides health coverage to eligible low-income adults, children, pregnant women, elderly adults and people with disabilities)
  • Chronic Condition plans for those with certain ongoing medical conditions such as diabetes, HIV/AIDS or chronic heart failure
  • Institutional plans for those living in a nursing home

Currently True North only offers Dual Eligible SNP plans for people with Medicare and Medicaid  in Ohio & Kentucky.  To find out if you qualify or to schedule your free, no-obligation consultation, please fee free to contact us at either of our Ohio or Northern Kentucky offices or visit our Medicaid vs. Medicare info page by clicking here.
